Here are the answers to some of the questions we are frequently asked.


Q. Does natural stone need a lot of looking after?
A. No. Natural stone, once correctly sealed, should only need a yearly spring clean.

Q. Does natural stone need to be sealed?
A. Natural stone needs sealing as soon as it is laid otherwise any spilt liquids etc. will seep into the tile.

Q. Can underfloor heating go under all types of tiles?
A. Underfloor heating can go under most types of tile as long as the tile is of flooring grade.

Q. Can I tile over existing tiles?
A. Yes, as long as the existing substrate is in very good condition and de-greased.

Q. Do I have to use an edging tile?
A. Edging tiles or trim do not need to be used depending on which tile you choose. However, tile trims and edges protect the main tile edges so chips do not occur.

Q. Can my tiles be fixed by Dot and Dabbing?
A. The Dot and Dab technique should never be used as tiles need to be bedded within correct fixing practice standards.

Q. Can I tile over floor boards and do I need special preparation?
A. Tiling over floorboards is fine as long as the substrate is firm with no deflection. An overlay of plywood and matting would also be necessary.

Q. Will I have problems if I tile over 'blown plaster'?
A. Tiling should never be fixed onto blown plaster as the weight of the tiles will cause the new tiles and plaster to fall off.
